In 2023, the developers of The Plant at Harrisburg began construction on public open space improvements at the intersection of Sampson and Harrisburg using a combination of private resources and funding from the Harrisburg RDA. The purpose of the Community Development Program Award was to expand availability of outdoor seating and aesthetics in order to make the space more conducive to community interaction. The project included elimination of a limited number of on-street parking spaces to expand the pedestrian space and add both landscaping and other amenities. Construction on the project was completed in 2024 and is currently being evaluated for level of impact.
